All The Hands

I love drawing hands. They can represent or signify so many different things about people. I often combine hands with other motifs to discuss a specific issue or observation. In this pattern, while exploring a natural dye colour palette, I wanted to illustrate human tendencies, strengths and struggles through hand gestures. The blue hands (indigo) are letting go or giving up, yellow (osage) are inviting or tempting, pink (cochineal) are judging or rejecting, green (indigo + osage) are giving or offering, and orange hands represent resistance or retaliation.
